Our Masjid Is Our Shared Responsibility

One of the great blessings Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala, has bestowed upon this community is our Islamic Center—a house where His name is mentioned, where prayers are offered, and where children and adults learn about their faith. Allah reminds us, “And Cooperate in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.” (Qur’an 5:2). Caring for the Islamic Center, maintaining its cleanliness, and supporting its activities are all forms of cooperation in righteousness and acts of worship that bring us closer to Him.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught that even small acts of service around the mosque and the pathways of the Muslims are deeds that lead to Paradise. He said that whoever removes something harmful from the path of the Muslims will have a good deed recorded in their favor, and whoever has a good deed accepted will enter Paradise. If removing a small piece of harm from a road carries such a reward, what about those who help keep the House of Allah clean, welcoming, and ready to receive worshipers and guests?

At this time, our center has specific and urgent needs. The back aisle on the west side requires a thorough cleaning and regular attention. The entrance and the second floor also need consistent care: mopping, trash removal, dusting, and organizing so that, at any moment, our building reflects the dignity of the worship that takes place inside it. A clean, orderly masjid is a silent form of da‘wah; it speaks to visitors—Muslim and non-Muslim—about the respect this community has for its Lord and for His house.

For this reason, we are calling for volunteers to form a small “Masjid Care Task Force.” This team would:

  • Clean and organize the back west aisle on a regular schedule.
  • Take responsibility for the entrance area, making sure it is always neat, welcoming, and free of clutter.
  • Look after the second floor, including mopping, vacuuming, and emptying trash so that classrooms and prayer areas are always ready for use.

Participation does not require special skills—only sincerity, consistency, and a willingness to give a little time for the sake of Allah. Some can commit weekly, others biweekly or monthly. Even families and youth can join, turning it into a regular act of worship you do together. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” Building here is not only with bricks; it is also by preserving, maintaining, and honoring what has already been built.

Beyond cleaning, we also encourage everyone to take part in the center’s programs: classes, Qur’an circles, youth events, open houses, and community service projects. The masjid becomes truly alive when its people fill it—not only at prayer times, but with learning, service, and brotherhood. Every event needs organizers, helpers, greeters, and quiet workers behind the scenes. Joining these efforts is a way of showing gratitude to Allah for the blessing of having a place to pray and gather.

Let each of us ask: What small, regular contribution can I make—alone or with my family—to keep this center clean, vibrant, and welcoming? If you can help with the cleaning task force or with ongoing activities, please contact the center office or one of the board members and leave your name and preferred times. No effort is too small when done for the sake of Allah.

May Allah make us among those who “cooperate in righteousness and piety,” who honor His houses on earth, and who are honored by a house with Him in Paradise.
