This is the creation of Allah. So show Me that which those (whom you worship), besides Him, have created. Nay, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and those who do not believe in the Oneness of Allah) are in plain error.
Tafsir: Surah Luqman
Exegesis of Verse 11
“This is the creation of Allah. So show Me what those besides Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.”
Translation and Elaboration
Allah challenges the polytheists with an irrefutable argument: “This is the creation of Allah, so show Me what those besides Him have created.” Everything observable in existence—the heavenly and earthly realms, all animate and inanimate beings, the very sustenance flowing to all creatures—is the creation of Allah alone, without partner. Even the polytheists themselves acknowledge this truth. Yet despite this admission, they worship deities alongside Allah, claiming these false gods deserve veneration. The logical consequence of such worship would require that these alleged partners possess creative power comparable to Allah’s—that they too create universes, provide sustenance, and govern existence. But no polytheist can demonstrate even a single atom of creation attributable to their idols, for all have already conceded that everything in existence is Allah’s handiwork alone.
This profound verse exposes the intellectual bankruptcy of polytheism. The polytheists worship out of ignorance and blind imitation rather than knowledge and insight, serving entities that possess no power to benefit or harm, to give death or life, or to resurrect. They abandon exclusive devotion to the One who created all things, sustains all creatures, and controls every affair. This is why Allah concludes that “the wrongdoers are in manifest error”—their misguidance is clear and undeniable. They attribute divine status to powerless creations while neglecting the Creator who alone deserves worship, demonstrating a deviation from truth so obvious that no rational person with sincere reflection could fail to recognize it.
