The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his companions, “Do you know who the first of Allah’s creation to enter Paradise are?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “…The poor and the emigrants who guard the frontiers, through whom hardships are averted, and one of them dies while his need is in his chest…”

The Complete Hadith and Its Meaning

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described:

They precede the wealthy into Paradise by five hundred years (half a day), as Allah made their poverty, patience, and steadfastness the reason for their precedence.”
