Payne County Declares Emergency Burn Ban
Payne County Commissioners are calling an emergency meeting Friday to declare a burn ban for Payne County.
The office released an agenda just before 4 p.m. Thursday. Commissioners will meet at 8 a.m. Friday at the Payne County Administration Building.
Thursday has been marked with a Red Flag Warning in much of the state. North-central Oklahoma is also under a wind advisory.
“By virtue of this resolution, it is unlawful for any person to set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop or other wildlands, or to build a campfire or bonfire, or to burn trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop, or other wildlands fire,” the agenda reads.
Exceptions to this fire prohibition:
- Indoor fireplaces
- Commercial or professional covered cookers
- Welding torch down type roofing
- Gas grills with adequate protection

Wildfire Reported Between Yale and Cushing
The Watch Duty app is reporting a wildfire between Yale and Cushing, first reported around 3 p.m.
According to the report, the fire is just north of South Harmony Road and East Fairlawn Road, and is being referred to as the Fairlawn Fire.
Multiple firefighting units have been called to assist with containing the blaze. Residents in the area are advised to:
- Stay informed through official channels
- Be prepared to evacuate if ordered
- Avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles access
- Report any new fire sightings immediately to 911
