The Good Word as a Tree: The good word is likened to a tree with a firm root and branches reaching the sky. This tree bears fruit in all seasons, symbolizing the enduring and far-reaching impact of righteous words and deeds. Just as a tree provides shade, sustenance, and beauty, a good word—whether it is the declaration of faith, a kind remark, or a truthful statement—brings blessings, guidance, and stability to the believer and those around them.

The Bad Word as a Tree: Conversely, the bad word is compared to a tree uprooted from the earth, devoid of any foundation. Such a tree cannot survive, let alone bear fruit. This represents the fleeting and destructive nature of falsehood, slander, and evil speech. These words, devoid of truth and goodness, bring no benefit and ultimately lead to ruin.

Divine Support for the Believers: Allah (SWT) reassures the believers that He will strengthen them with “the firm word”—a reference to the declaration of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and the teachings of Islam. This firmness is not only a source of guidance in this life but also a means of salvation in the Hereafter. The wrongdoers, however, are left to their own devices, as Allah (SWT) allows them to stray due to their rejection of the truth.

These verses remind us of the power of our words and the importance of aligning them with truth, righteousness, and faith. Just as a tree is nurtured to grow strong and bear fruit, our words should be cultivated with care, for they have the power to shape our lives and the lives of others.
